N J Construction have successfully completed scores of tower maintenance projects in NSW, projects include:

• Transgrid, where N J Construction have performed steel lattice tower upgrades including steel member replacement and anti-climbing device replacement.
• Energy Australia, N J Construction have successfully completed the repair and coating of steel lattice transmission line towers, including dual circuit towers through the heart of Sydney.

Integral Energy, Again N J Construction successfully prepared and coated critical towers in environmentally sensitive bushland in the Wollongong area for Integral Energy. Integral Energy commended N J Construction on our safe practices and high quality performance and has led to our being awarded the mass upgrade and coating of Integral Energy’s Steel Lattice Towers in Sydney and the Southern Table-lands of NSW, a $6 million project over three years. This project commenced in March 2004 and we have a team of approximately 20 Transmission Linesman and Management dedicated to this project.

Sydney South to Kurnell Transmission Tower Painting (Sydney, NSW) – Energy Australia

Following on from the successful upgrade & painting of 40 towers on the Strathfield Sydney South Transmission Line for Energy Australia, N J Construction successfully tendered for another 30 towers on the Sydney South to Kurnell Transmission Line.

N J Construction were selected for this latest contract due to the previous high quality of work demonstrated and our strict adherence to safety and environmental concerns in this sensitive and heavily populated area between Strathfield and Punchbowl.

The transmission towers selected for painting were those closest to the Line route skirting the Towra Point Aquatic Reserve. Particular emphasis was placed on the requirements of Energy Australia’s Environmental Policy. Prior to starting work Energy Australia and N J Construction carried out joint environmental/ safety risk assessments and identified areas of concern.

The towers were heavily corroded due to the close coastal proximity. N J Construction adopted wet abrasive techniques to remove the rust prior to repainting. There were corroded bolts and steel members that required replacement. We changed the defective items as necessary so as not to delay the programme and meet outage dates.

Scope:

Preparation, cleaning and painting of 30 Steel Lattice Transmission Line towers.
